Start with the gym floor and the competition rules. Measure existing sleeve spacing and diameter, then match the post system, height adjustment, net, antennas and pads to the venue and event. A product listing alone does not confirm that a system fits a particular court or satisfies its governing body's requirements.
For an indoor court, the floor sleeves and event rules shape the purchase. Check those first, then compare the post system, height adjustment, net, antennas and safety equipment included with the exact package.
Begin with the facility
Before selecting a post system, record the sleeve center-to-center spacing, sleeve diameter and depth, floor type, ceiling clearance and the storage route. Ask the facility manager whether sleeves and floor anchors are approved for that equipment. A supplier’s typical spacing range is planning guidance; the venue’s measured floor and the chosen system’s installation instructions are the final check.
Match the system to the use
| Setup | Buying questions |
|---|---|
| Dedicated competition court | Check the event’s rules for post location, height, padding, net dimensions and included antennas. Confirm that the system fits the installed sleeves. |
| Shared gym with sleeves | Measure the exact floor sleeves and confirm the posts, adapters and floor protection are compatible. Check how the system is raised, tensioned and stored. |
| Portable training or recreation | Compare the base footprint, stability requirements, height range and storage space. Confirm the setup is permitted on that floor and suits the intended use. |
FIVB senior rules specify net heights of 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women, measured at the center. They specify a 1 m net width and 9.50-10 m net length. FIVB and USAV rules also specify post placement and construction. USAV’s competition rules include padding details; confirm the rule set and event manual instead of applying one specification to every gym.
Compare what the package includes
List each component before comparing systems: posts, net, tensioning hardware, antennas, post pads, floor sleeves or adapters, referee stand and any installation work. These vary by product. For example, Jaypro’s PVB-6500 listing describes its own 3.5-inch upright with a 3-inch sleeve adapter, height adjustment from 6 ft 6 in to 8 ft 2 in, and included net, antennas and pads. Its published sleeve-spacing range is specific to that system; verify the exact venue before ordering.
For new sleeves or floor work, involve the facility installer and follow the selected manufacturer’s current installation instructions. Use the net-height guide to check the playing height and our backyard and beach net guide for outdoor systems.

Common questions
Can I buy volleyball posts before checking the floor sleeves?
Measure the venue's actual sleeve spacing and diameter first. Systems and floors differ, so confirm compatibility with the equipment maker or facility installer.
What net height should an indoor system adjust to?
FIVB senior rules use 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women, measured at center court. Check the governing body's rules for other levels and formats.
Does a product labeled competition-ready meet every league's rules?
No. Compare the exact system and its included pads, posts, net and antennas with your event rules and facility requirements.
